The Tech Crew

Our operations team is led by Shaun Luckly the Operations Manager. Martin Short the Stage Manager leads the rest of the technical team which are made up of volunteers.

Lighting

Lighting Design

Lighting Board Operator

Once the lighting designer has designed what each lighting state should look like, the Lighting Board Operator (Board Op.) will program each state into the lighting desk. Once the lighting states have been entered into the desk they can be recalled in order by pressing the 'go' button when directed by the Deputy Stage Manager.

Follow spot Operator

We have two follow spots located in the rear of the circle which are used for highlighting the main performers on the stage. By looking through the sights on the side of the follow spot it is possible to get the spot on the right person before turning it on.

Sound

Sound Designer

Deciding where to place the microphones and what sort they should be is one of the jobs of the sound designer. They are responsible for working out which bits of equipment are required for each show and where they should be placed to achieve the sound that is required. Some shows don't use any sound equipment at all as the acoustics are fantastic in the main theatre whilst in the past some have used over 40 channels of sound.

Sound Engineer

When the sound system has been designed the sound engineer will set up and test the system to make sure it works in the required manner. They will ask performers to sing, talk or play into microphones and adjust the settings on the sound desk to produce the type of sound needed. During the show they will constantly adjust the levels of each microphone to achieve a balanced sound.

Stage

Stage Manager

It is the stage managers job to ensure that the scenery and crew are in the right places at the right times.

Deputy Stage Manager

The lighting desk operator, follow spot operators and sound effect operator all need to be coordinated so that things happen at the right time. The Deputy Stage Manager (DSM) sits on the side of the stage and follows the script or score of the show. Every time there is a lighting change or a sound effect happens or a spot light needs to come on the DSM will have the exact point marked.

Fly man

When parts of the scenery disappear off into the roof or curtains move in or out the person on the other end of the rope is the fly man.
