Bournemouth Concert Brass are one of the South's premier brass bands. September sees them perform their annual 'Last Night of the Proms' concert to the Regent Centre. Bring your flags and whistles, and you vocal chords! to join in this most patriotic event. Along with British Sea Songs, Jerusalem and Elgar's Land of Hope and Glory, the band will present a selection of music to suit all tastes. The Dodge Brothers and Neil Brand play live to a screening of the classic 1928 silent film "Beggars of Life". Renowned film critic Mark Kermode - who plays bass and harmonica - will be joining his bandmates and acclaimed composer Brand for a musical accompaniment to Beggars of Life: the seminal 1928 silent movie featuring Wallace Beery as a rail-riding hobo and Louise Brooks as a girl on the run. The performance has been met with glowing reviews following London shows, and the band became the first ever to accompany a silent film at Glastonbury Festival in 2014. Join Britain’s most popular soprano for a delightful evening of song, reminiscences and chat. Accompanied by, and in conversation with, Anna Tilbrook Lesley's behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes will give audiences a unique insight into her life on the stage As well as performing on the opera and concert stage both in the UK and internationally, Lesley has recently returned to English National Opera for the world premiere production of Nico Muhly’s Marnie. Last spring she appeared with WNO in another world premiere creating the role of Emcee in Rhonda Rips It Up!, based on the life of suffragette Margaret Haig Thomas (Lady Rhondda) and the autumn saw Lesley make her acting debut in a revised version of Patrick Barlow’s play, The Messiah for the National Theatre of Brent, on tour and in the West End. This spring she is creating another new role in ENO’s world premiere of Iain Bell’s opera, Jack the Ripper at the Coliseum. Ray's in the Mood as the world’s greatest Big Band transports you back to the heady days and music of the 1940s - with the fabulous harmonies of the Moonlight Serenaders and the sublime vocals of Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter. Also featuring the jazz sounds of the The Uptown Hall Gang - an outstanding Dixieland group drawn from members of the orchestra. 2019 marked the 75th anniversary of Glenn Miller’s arrival in UK with his Army Air Force band to support the troops in the Allied Invasion of Northwest Europe. He arrived in July 1944 and played around 80 concerts and broadcasts before his disappearance on a flight to Paris six months later. The legacy he left was his amazing swing music. Featuring: – In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, American Patrol, Little Brown Jug, Tuxedo Junction and the song that became pop history’s first gold disc, Chattanooga Choo Choo! Following the success this year of Tony Blackburn’s Sounds of the 60s live tour, which has enjoyed a long run of sold out performances across the UK, legendary DJ Johnnie Walker will take BBC Radio 2’s popular Sounds of the 70s radio show on the road in 2020. The brand new live show will be hosted by Johnnie, who will offer his personal stories and memories from the ‘70s, and will feature a live band and singers who will perform an array of classic hits from throughout the decade. The tour will visit over 20 venues across the UK bringing the Sounds Of The 70s from the studio to the stage for the very first time. Johnnie Walker: “It’s a real treat for me to be taking my Sounds of the 70s radio show on the road. It’s going to be a great celebration and sing song of one of the greatest decades in music – we’ll talk about the artists who made it so special and will have an incredible band performing all those classic 70’s hits.
